Common Conditions We can Help!!
- Arthritis Pain- Knee, Spine, Elbow, Shoulder, Hip etc. Arthritis - Simply means "inflammation of the joint" persistant inflammation of the joint can lead to chronic pain and degeneration. Within a joint there is a very smooth fibrous connective tissue, known as articular cartilage. Osteoarthritis (also called degenerative joint disease) is the degradation and degeneration of this articular cartilage.
- Fibromyalgia- Fibromyalgia is a widespread muscular pain and fatigue condition. Pain and tenderness is felt throughout the body, not just in one specific muscle or area. Fibromyalgia is often associated with chronic fatigue, decreased pain threshold and stress. It is much more common in women than it is in men affecting women 9 times more than men. Many times sleep issues must be addressed to promote proper healing, this many times goes unaccounted for by other practitioners.
- Carpal Tunnel -Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve in the wrist.
- Extremity Sports Injuries Hip, Knee or Ankle pain; Shoulder, Elbow or Wrist pain- Can be caused by repetitive stress injuries caused form Sports like, golf, tennis running injuries etc. Can also be caused by traumatic onset of a one time sports injury such as a sprained ankle, knee sprain/ strain etc. Proper diagnosis and early treatment is important for full recovery and decrease in the amount of recovery time.
- Neck Pain- Many types of onset, repetitive stress, traumatic onset etc. Whiplash, sports injuies are common causes of neck pain.
- Bursitis,- A bursa is a small sack of fluid that lubricates where tendons move in joints. If the bursa is subjected to repeated trauma then it can become inflamed and swollen. Common locations of Bursitis are Knee, Shoulder, Wrist and Elbow, other areas may be effected also.
- Tendonitis- (Tennis Elbow Injury, Golf Injury) Bicipital Tendonitis is a common form of tendonitis. Caused by Inflammation of this tendon is a fairly common complaint especially with swimmers, rowers, throwers, golfers and weight lifters. Tennis elbow or “lateral epicondylitis” is an extremely common injury that originally got its name because it is a frequent tennis injury. Golfer elbow is a similar injury to tennis elbow only it affects the inside of the elbow “medial epicondylitis” instead. Golfer elbow is more common in throwers and golfers (wrist supination) hence the 'nicknames'. Also known as flexor / pronator tendinopathy this elbow pain is seen in tennis players who use a lot of top spin on their forehand shots (wrist pronation) .
- Sciatica- is caused by pressure on the largest nerve in the body, the Sciatic Nerve, Symptoms will present down the legs with pain, tingling numbness etc. It is important to treat the cause of the pain and not it’s symptoms.
- Plantar Fasciitis- is a painful condition caused by overuse of the plantar fascia or arch tendon of the foot. The cause of pain and dysfunction is now thought to be degeneration of the collagen fibres close to the attachment to the calcaneus (heel bone). Pain Relief and Decrease in Inflammation can be achieved with proper treatment.
- Back Pain Relief, Rotary Cuff Injury, Repetitive Sprain Strain Injuries, Car Auto Accident Injury Whiplash,- just a few other conditions helped in our Sports, Medical & Injury Clinic
Effective Treatments for Above Conditions.
Traumeel- used for muscle spasm, muscle pain and muscle trigger points. Trigger point is a hard contracted area that is tender in a larger muscle. 3 actions of Traumeel: 1)- all natural muscle relaxer 2)- all natural anti-inflammatory 3)- all natural pain reliever. Made of 14 plant, herbal and mineral extracts that work together to produce the desired effect. Not made in a Chemistry lab. FDA supervised. No side effects. Made from all natural components. Have the effects of cortisone but without the side effects or pain. Trigger point injections have minimal to no pain. Traumeel cream and oral tablets are non-effective in my experience. With a trigger point injection, the doctor is putting the medicine exactly on the spot that is affected. Trigger point injections work in 85-90 % of patients. Can be used frequently with no adverse effects. Standard Protocol as set forth by the manufacturer are 2 sessions/week for two weeks. Then reevaluation by the MD as to whether the patient would benefit from more. Usually no more than 20 injections per session. Moist heat is applied for 7-9 minutes over the injection sites to disperse the medicine into the muscle. Smallest needle made is used (30 gauge) about the size of a human hair. Long acting (weeks to months) after the protocol is completed. Sometimes boosters are necessary (1-2 injections for a trigger point). Not a new medication – first formulated by a German physician ~ 40 years ago. Gaining popularity in the U.S. because people know about cortisone and don’t want it. For more information, type in Traumeel on Google to learn more. Zeel- used as an anti-inflammatory for joints, ligaments, tendons, bursas and fascia. Excellent for tendonitis, carpal tunnel, etc. Likewise as Traumeel it is all natural with no side effects. FDA supervised. Administered with smallest needle made (30 gauge). Minimal to no pain. Usually only one injections is necessary; occasionally a second. Works like cortisone without the adverse effects. Safe. After injection, ice pack is applied to injection site for 5-7 minutes. Excellent for bursitis, tennis/golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fascitis, arthritic joint. Sarapin - Strongest anti-inflammatory we use. Extract of the Pitcher Plant. All natural. No side effects. FDA supervised. Primarily used for pain of neuralgic origin. Such as sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, shingles. Long acting. Can be used in the same joint or affected area only three (3) times in one year. Very safe and effective! Ice pack applied over injection site for 5-7 minutes. Euflexxa- used to relieve knee pain from osteoarthritis and surgeries of the knee causing osteoarthritis or inflammation. All natural substance. Exact same chemical formula as human joint fluid. 3 mechanisms of action of Euflexxa: 1)- stimulates more production of your own joint fluid 2)- Forms a cushion between opposing bones (i.e. femur and tibia). 3)- Coats pain nerve endings in the knee joint and capsule. Not a drug, but pure hyaluronic acid, same as our joint fluid. . Get one knee injection weekly for 3 weeks. Three injections in each knee if both are affected. Not painful. Very safe. Complication rate from Euflexxa is equal to that of saline (placebo). Relief of pain for 6 months to 4 years. Best for mild to moderate osteoarthritis. Only 50% relief of pain in severe “bone-on bone” osteoarthritis. No heavy activity for 48 hours after an injection. Then can perform any activity your body will allow you to. When knee pain returns 6 months to four years later, just get another series of Euflexxa injections. Must have 3 consecutive weeks to devote to administration of the injections. Allowed to miss one week. Otherwise, entire series must be started over. Efficacy cannot be determined in a patient until 2 weeks after the last injection has been given. Most patients feel an improvement in their knee after the 1st injection.
